The Generations of JASA

Every now and then, personal experience aligns with deep-seated beliefs. That’s what happened with Jessica and Alan.

The couple can trace their initial involvement with JASA back to 1976, when 13-year-old Alan’s grandparents’ lives were changed by moving into JASA’s Brookdale Village, a vibrant senior community in Far Rockaway. Alan’s grandfather brought Saturday religious services to Brookdale, and his grandmother became deeply involved - for the first time - in political activities. Alan saw how JASA’s housing and community provided his grandparents with an active social life and community involvement in causes they believed in.

Alan’s wife Jessica, raised with a deep-seated belief in giving back and a natural affinity with older adults, began to volunteer her time to JASA. Not one to do things halfway, her commitment grew over time; she was invited to join the Board of Trustees. She now serves as a Vice President, is Chair of the Development Committee and is a key member of the agency’s communications team, helping tell the story of JASA. Jessica and Alan donate their time and funds because JASA is “fundamentally changing the lives of seniors.” As the senior demographic grows, Alan believes, “JASA is getting more important, filling a great need in NYC that is not being filled by other organizations.”
