Celebrating 50 Years of JASA: Honoring Our Past, Building the Future

Fifty years ago, telephones were simpler and attached to walls, Elvis broadcast his comeback special, Hair opened on Broadway, and JASA was founded to help older adults – of all races, religions and economic backgrounds – live safely in their own homes with independence, dignity, and joy. Looking back, we are humbled by what we – our clients, staff, volunteers and of course, donors -- have accomplished. And JASA’s work continues to harness our clients’ strengths and honor their preferences as we work to meet their needs.

On May 16, 2018, JASA Celebrated 50 years at the magnificent Hudson Yards, and honored leaders who have made a real difference in the lives of New York’s older adults. Together, we applauded what we collectively achieved over our history and, more importantly, set the course to build our future together.

JASA honored Stephen M. Ross, Chairman and Founder of Related Companies and former JASA Trustee, who received the JASA Visionary Award.

We were also delighted to recognize and present the JASA Legacy Awards to:

Patricia F. Green, a long-time Trustee and the Green Family, one of JASA’s founding families, a member of whom has served on JASA’s Board nearly every year since our founding

Ruth Perelson, the longest serving Trustee and first female JASA President

JASA still needs your support so that we can be there for the growing number of older New Yorkers who count on us each and every day. Will you contribute to JASA now to support our vital programs? We hope that you will help us by supporting our Give for Good.
